As a teacher and singer I know all too well about where you are. Expressing myself with friends or colleagues in a usual context is fine but the moment there’s an audience, a stage, a microphone, a Powerpoint slide or a room full of eyes it’s easy to turn to jelly.

I remember the first time it happened to me in front of a room of 25 young offenders all looking at me and my mind going blank, thoughts of panic, physical symptoms such as shaking and sweating and the one belief that superseded them all ‘I can’t do this- I need to get out of here’

Finding your Feet

In my own case, I had no choice but to overcome the barrier of stage fright. I began researching mindsets, methods and psychological tricks to allow my body to be still and my mind to feel in control.

Some trepidation is natural, however now whenever my brain gives me that little adrenalin nudge which tells me it’s time to perform, I work with it differently. Over the years, I’ve built up a toolkit of calming strategies and rationalising techniques that take away the excess nerves: a combination of visualization, self-talk, thinking strategies, energy shifting techniques such as EFT and Bilateral stimulation and instant calmers such as breath work and aromatherapy.

Helping Others

In my work as a life coach and hypnotherapist, I find that client s often experience performance anxiety alongside other issues. I work specifically with the symptoms of performance nerves while exploring underlying issues which may trigger this response.
