Steph Clarkson DHP Acc. Hyp.
Clinical Hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner, Reiki Master, EMDR & EFT facilitator
Hi, I’m Steph Clarkson a Clinical Hypnotherapist working in South Oxfordshire and online via Zoom.
When embarking on a client programme, I always begin by spending some time to listen to your story and personality before choosing and appropriate methods to suit you and you needs. Being multidisciplinary allows me to do this with a broader range of tools to choose from.
I love to learn about the brain and what make people tick and so in my quest for therapeutic knowledge I've enjoyed training with a broad spectrum of therapy approaches: Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, NLP, EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Emotional Freedom Technique, Life Coaching, Time Line approaches, regression therapies, counselling plus a range of holistic therapies such as aromatherapy and reiki.
Whilst I have studied at the highest level of training for Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching via the London Hypnotherapy Academy in Wimbledon, clients often say they feel sessions are friendly, relaxed and feel able to open up easily without judgement in a kind, confidential space.
My approach is simple,I believe the brain is a wonderful mechanism that keeps us safe and navigates us through life. Sometimes after negative experiences our protective mechanism kicks in and may cause habits, fear, anxiety, procrastination and worry . These can be recent events or events from childhood that somehow stay with us.
I work on the premise that it's normal and healthy for the subconscious to want to look after us, it's just that sometimes the way it goes about it can feel OTT and counter-productive. By working together we can put you back in the driving seat of your own mind and emotions to help yourself getting into healthier habits that support and nourish you in a way you want!
I truly believe that the skills to manage your wellbeing are teachable and that this learning is essential in our modern times. To achieve this aim I developed Stephanie Clarkson Therapies in 2014 to empower as many people as possible to learn the tools to manage negative states, encourage positive healing and get the most from life despite the occasional pressure.
On a 1-to-1 basis, I do this using a unique combination of coaching and hypnosis in which I use CBT, NLP and mind-body techniques to retrain the conscious mind while at the same time working deep within the subconscious to foster lasting change.
As your coach and therapist I am committed to:
Be genuinely interested in your inner world, how your brain works and you're unique viewpoint as an individual.
Be on time, prepared for your arrival with a glass of water and a friendly face.
Be kind and compassionate - while still unafraid to ask the tough questions where needed.
Be passionate and genuine in the pursuit of working positively with your wonderful mind
Care about the quality of your service
Treat you holistically, drawing from a breadth of knowledge of therapies and approaches
Reassure and soothe wherever possible whilst being open and honest.
Support you to the best of my ability while working collaboratively towards goals.
Valuing my rights as a professional and your rights as an individual by creating an appropriate therapeutic environment.
“Steph’s outlook and calming nature really helped me to understand that I have no reason to feel guilty about wanting my own happiness. That’s not to say that I don’t consider other people’s feelings, but I have come to appreciate that the way that other people feel really isn’t my responsibility. I feel like I have found myself”

Why work with Steph
If you would like some support on your journey to feeling positive, overcoming a specific issue or challenge or simply reset your body and energy I’d love to help.
My sessions are relaxed, confidential and built around you. You’ll have a confidential ear to listen to your situation and also the reassurance that you are talking to somebody who has been through the ups and downs of anxiety, low self esteem and the challenges of mental wellbeing.
It's a non judgemental environment where you are in the driving seat, supported by gentle guidance towards becoming your best self.
Outside the therapy room
As well as a therapist of course I’m a real person! Here I am at home (I see most clients here at my home based therapy room) with my Yamaha Digital piano and favourite rug.
I’m always happy to share some of the things I do as I think it’s important to practise what you preach and also show clients what’s possible once you’ve overcome fear and the ‘what will people think’ monster.
These days I actively choose to set myself new challenges that push the comfort zones and yes, I absolutely use the techniques we use in sessions to help me rise to them!
Here’s 3 things you may not know about Steph outside the therapy room…
1) I adore Art
Alongside my therapy practise, I run small enterprises as both an artist and craft maker for holistic goods. I’ve been enjoying creative work for 10 years and painted over 400 private commissions and am very involved with the Oxford Etsy Team. Although it’s no longer my day job, I just can’t help myself from time to time when the muse hits from getting the kitchen - and usually myself - covered in paint.
You can find my artwork here :
2) I love creative writing and music
After university near Liverpool, I became a GCSE English teacher for several years and studied for a Masters in Novel Writing at Manchester Met.These days ‘me time’ is spent penning lyrics in my past time as an amateur singer-songwriter in the genre of jazz, country and blues. I perform my own music and covers at local festivals and open mics.
3) I live in a beautiful Countryside town near Oxford.
Originally from West Yorkshire, home is now the leafy market town of Thame, Oxfordshire. I share a home with a local personal trainer who ensures nutrition and exercise are an active part of my self-care program.
He’s also my inspiration to become a runner and we’ve just completed the Blenheim Palace 10k event in Autumn 2018 raising money for MacMillan Cancer Care.
Look out for future joint ventures looking at body image from the mental and the practical perspective.
4… I drink probably too much Yorkshire Tea.
So there you have it…
